It will be real interesting to see what this role turns into in the next few years and how much is owned by the vendors vs. consulting companies

If I had known sixty years ago that I was actually an FDE, I would have put in in my resume'.

Everyone's hiring FDEs, but the role that's actually scaling is the job title - the incentive structure that made the original work has quietly flipped, so what produced real customer outcomes at Palantir becomes vendor adoption metrics everywhere else. In practice, that means a lot of people doing customer success work under a more technical name.
